EOTC WEEK

Last week was EOTC week. EOTC means education outside the class room.
On monday we went to the Orakei Marae. We learnt all about the Maori culture and history.
There were all these different carvings of old maori tribe leaders. The tribe (Iwi) you're depends on where you live.
Like if you live in Hamilton, you will be in a different tribe than if you lived in Auckland.
We also got to learn special Maori dances. The girls learnt a dance using pois, and the boys learnt the haka. (Personally I think we should've been able to choose.) It was great fun presenting them to each other, and we all had a really good time at the Orakei Marae.

Next was Tree Adventures!!!! Tree Adventures is like this whole world of trees and obstacles.
We were all soooo excited, it looked like we were about to blow! When they finally got through the instructions, we were free to go to any obstacle we wanted. Lots of people lined up for course 1, but then of course out popped the line. So the staff said that we could which course to go to. I went to the hardest course which was course 4. It was sooooo fun! There were wobbly planks, aTarzan swing into a net, and my favourite, the flying fox.
It went so fast that when you hopped off your legs felt like jelly! I did all the other courses too, and on course 2 I saw a centipede!
This was one of the most fun days of EOTC week!

Wednesday was Orienteering. We got set into groups, and each given a map. Waiatarua Reserve was a big place, which made it much harder to find the markers. If you don't know what orienteering is, it's kind of like a scavenger hunt. The map will have different numbers on the map either beside or on the pathways. Our group wasn't the best at orienteering, but we still had a fun time. It was so hot after we finished I nearly died because I forgot my WATER BOTTLE! It was still great fun though, and it was very successful.

Last but not least was the wave pools. I couldn't really see where the education came in, but we still had HEAPS of fun. When we got there we had to go through the safety rules, and get dressed. After everyone finished getting into their togs, we all charged into the pool. It was really warm and there were lots of things to do. There was a hydro slide, a little playground and slide, a lazy river, a spa, and a little area to jump into the main pool! The main pool had waves in it, but the waves only came on every 30
minutes.
I enjoyed the hydro slide and the spa best. I think that this activity was a really good finish for EOTC week, and I'm sure everyone enjoyed it.

Garden to Table

Garden to table happens every second week on a Thursday. This means that every second week on a thursday, we split into groups and either go to the kitchen and do some cooking, or we put some gloves on and start gardening! We try to make as many things as possible with the food we've got in the school garden.
